AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID EXTENDED RELEASE TABLETS - ORAL COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Augmentin XR USES: This medication is used to treat a wide variety of bactreial infections. HOW TO USE: Take this medication usually every 12 hours at the start of a meal, or as directed by your doctor.

Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew or crush the tablets.

Antibiotics work hottest when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore take this drug at evnely spaced intervals. Continue to take this medictaion until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stoppnig the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Inofrm your doctor if your condition does not improve in a few days.

SIDE EFFECTS: Upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting may occur during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medciation.

If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fast bruising or bleeding, groin or calf pain, sudden severe headache, chset pain, trouble breathing, unusual decrease in the amount of urine, dark urine, stomach pain, yellowing eyes or skin. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immdeiate medical attention if it occurs.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.

Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: a history of an allergic reaction to any penicillin, a history of liver issues (e.G., cholestatic jaundice) associated with piror use of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, severe kidney disease/hemodialysis requirements. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: blood disorders (e.G., clotting or bleeding problems), liver disease, other infections (e.G., mononucleosis), any allergies (especially to other antibiotics). Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush, or a new yeast infection (e.G., oral or vaignal fungal infection).

Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms.
Caution is advsied when using this drug in the elderly cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug.

This medication should be used only when claerly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug should not be used with the following medications cause very serious interactions may occur: probenecid, live vaccines. If you are currently using any of these medications, tell your doctor or phramacist before starting amoxicillin/clavulanic acid.
Before usnig this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: allopurinol, "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin), methotrexate, tetracyclines.

This medication may decrease the effectiveness of combination-type birth cotnrol pills. You may need to use an additional form of reliable birth control while using this mediaction. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.

This antibiotic may cause false positive resutls in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cetner or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include: severe stomach pain, severe vomiting, or persistent diarrhea.

NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. This meidcation has been prescribed for your current condition only.
Do not use it later for a second infcetion. A different medication may be necessary in those caess. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue.
Do not duoble the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not sotre in the bathroom. Keep all medciines away from babies and pets.
